EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL VS OLIVE OIL : WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
Let’s clarify the key differences between extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and olive oil, including their flavor, quality and nutritional content.
TASTE
While olive oil has a much more neutral flavor; EVOO has a distinct flavor that can range from fruity to grassy, peppery, or even slightly bitter, depending on the olive variety and region.
QUALITY
The quality of olive oil is usually lower than extra virgin olive oil. EVOO is considered the highest quality olive oil. It comes from the first cold pressing of fresh olives.
NUTRITION
While still a healthy fat, refined olive oil may lose some of the beneficial properties that EVOO has. EVOO retains its antioxidants, polyphenols, and vitamins, making it a heart-healthy choice.
They also have different production processes, shelf life, and reactions to heat.
